Headlines Group of Six Past Champions in the Field

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Tournament officials announced today an impressive list of highly ranked players and past champions who have committed to the 2015 Valero Texas Open, scheduled for March 26-29 at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.

Jim Furyk, who has finished in the top ten in the tournament the past two years is currently ranked No.7 in the Official World Golf Rankings and leads a group of six players in the field who are among the top 25 in the world. Matt Kuchar, who finished 4th last year, is currently No. 10 in the world. Area resident Jimmy Walker, who successfully defended his Sony Open in Hawaii title a few weeks ago for his fourth PGA TOUR title in a 12-month span, is currently 13th in the world.

Billy Horschel, who is ranked 17th in the world, is also scheduled to compete. Horschel, the reigning FedEx Cup champion, finished third here in 2013. World No. 20 Graeme McDowell has also committed and will be making his first appearance at the Valero Texas Open.

“I’m excited to add the Valero Texas Open to my playing schedule this year,” said McDowell. “I’ve heard great things from the other players on Tour about the city of San Antonio, its people and the facility at TPC San Antonio. I also understand there will be a great field. All in all, I’m really looking forward to taking part in what should be a fun week.”

Two-time Valero Texas Open champion and World No. 21 Zach Johnson is also in the field.

2014 champion Steven Bowditch will defend his title. Last year, the Australian was the only player in the field to record three sub-70 rounds in the first 54 holes and managed to win by a single stroke on Sunday. It was his first PGA TOUR title and also earned him his first trip to the Masters Tournament.

Past champions who are on the commitment list as of today are Martin Laird (2013), Ben Curtis (2012), Brendan Steele (2011), Justin Leonard (2000, 2001 & 2007) and Johnson (2008 & 2009).

“As we prepare for what we anticipate will be another great week for San Antonio, it is exciting to have such an accomplished group already making plans to attend the Valero Texas Open,” said the tournament’s Executive Director, Larson Segerdahl. “It is a great testament to the fans, the people of San Antonio and our title sponsor that the world’s best players are finding a way to get this tournament on their schedule.”

Players have until Friday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time to commit to the Valero Texas Open.
