Valero Texas Open Field Continues To Strengthen

World No. 8 and Two-Time Valero Texas Open Champion Zach Johnson is Latest Top-Ranked Player to Commit

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Tournament officials announced today more top-ranked players, major champions and multiple career winners who are making plans to compete in the 2014 Valero Texas Open, scheduled for March 24-30 at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.

Two-time Valero Texas Open champion Zach Johnson leads the list of the latest players to commit. Johnson, currently ranked No. 8 in the world, won the 2008 and 2009 tournament when it was played at LaCantera. The 2007 Masters champion will be making his second appearance since the tournament moved to the AT&T Oaks Course.

World No. 31 Ryan Moore, who won earlier this season, eight-time PGA TOUR winner and a top-ten finisher in 2013 K.J. Choi, 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman and 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir also committed.

“At this point we are very pleased with the way the field is shaping up,” said Executive Director, Larson Segerdahl. “As tournament week draws closer, we expect more of the top players on the PGA TOUR and around the world to make plans to attend the Valero Texas Open.”

In addition, Brooks Koepka, age 23, and Peter Uihlein, 24, have accepted sponsor exemptions to compete. Both were outstanding American amateur golfers, who are currently making their way on the European Tour and ranked among the top 75 in the world. Koepka won three European Tour Challenge Tour events last year, earning a promotion to the European Tour. Uihlein won the Madeira Islands Open on the European Tour last year.

Earlier, tournament officials announced the commitments of World No. 11 Matt Kuchar, No. 20 Jim Furyk, No. 25 Jimmy Walker and No. 43 Billy Horschel. 2013 champion Martin Laird is also scheduled to defend his title.

Players have until 4:00 p.m. Central / 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, March 21 to announce their intentions to compete in the Valero Texas Open. No player can commit after that deadline. A player can withdraw at any time and will be replaced in the field by PGA TOUR members from the alternate list.
