Second Round Interview with Ludvig Åberg

Q. Ludvig, can you talk about your round today and how it felt to get off to such a strong day 2?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah. I thought today was nice. It was hard, thought it was tricky with the wind. Obviously we'll get a few of those downwinds, a few of those crosswinds and kind of all over the place. Overall I felt like we handled it very well. I thought I was driving it somewhat similar to yesterday but a little bit better into the greens today. Overall, pleased with the results.

Q. What is the value in experiencing this type of weather going into next week and just battling the elements?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah, for sure. I think obviously the big tournament is next week, but we're also here this week and my focus is here.

Last couple years I've played this tournament leading into the Masters and I always feel like this one, being a little bit tighter off the tee, kind of dials you in a little bit. It kind of narrows your tunnel a little bit off the tee, I guess. It's quite nice doing that before Augusta I think when you come there next week and it feels a little bit wider. Overall, I feel like that's what we've done the last couple years. Probably continue to do so in the future.

Q. You had an eagle on 6 today. What did you see on that shot?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah. I haven't really hit my wedges that well this week so far. I've kind of overshot them a little bit too far. This one was 120 yards‑ish, something like that, and I hit a sand wedge. I thought it was going to be a little bit long, but I haven't seen, I guess it went in with some speed. Yeah, those are always going to be a bonus naturally, but pretty cool when they happen.

Q. When you're on the course this week, are you thinking about how things ended at THE PLAYERS? Does that impact your mindset at all?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: When I'm playing this week?

Q. Yeah. Just do you think back to your last tournament, how that played out.

LUDVIG ÅBERG: No, no, not when I'm playing here. I've had two weeks off, which has been quite nice, since THE PLAYERS. I was able to kind of think about it, reflect on it, but also move on from it. I think that was the main thing for me at least kind of showing up here this week that those things are behind me, they're past me and my focus is here this week.

Q. And what has it meant to you to be as sharp as you've been through these two days?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah, I feel great. I feel like I've been playing good golf. For me, golf is about putting yourself in situations where you can win tournaments. I feel like I haven't really done that very well the last 12 months or so, but starting to see it now, which has been really nice. Starting to get back into that level, which is really nice for me to see. So I'm looking forward to one more shot at it this week.

Q. Can you describe what you enjoy about the VTO in particular and the crowd here in San Antonio?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Yeah, it's really cool. Obviously I went to school at Texas Tech just a couple hours from here. Yeah, I definitely feel the love from Texas and I love playing in Texas. I lived there for almost five years and consider it almost home, Texas. I really enjoy playing here and appreciate the crowd coming up and cheering for us.

Q. A little non‑golf question. Did you happen to catch Sweden's World Cup qualifying over the week last week and did it give you any extra mojo coming into this week?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: I didn't watch the game. I watched the one last week when we beat Ukraine. I didn't get to watch the one this week, we were out playing a practice round.

But obviously I was watching it, I had notifications on. It was pretty cool. Obviously I saw all the scenes after and it looked like a pretty good party afterwards. Really cool for Swedish football. It's been a while since we were in the World Cup, so I'm looking forward to this summer.

Q. Do you plan on catching a game over the summer maybe?

LUDVIG ÅBERG: Maybe. I think I saw they're playing in Houston and Dallas and Mexico, so it's going to be tricky with us being on the east coast at that time. But if I do get an opportunity, that's a bucket list thing for me.
