Third Round Interview with Brian Harman
Q. Brian, you managed to get back to 12 undergoing towards the end of your round. Just your thoughts on the day as a whole?
BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, I knew I'd get some birdie chances on that back nine, just had to kind of survive the front, there's some really tough holes. Got out of position a few times off the tee and really had to scramble.
Really proud of the pars I made, 7, 8, 9, made a nice par there on 12, just trying to get a little momentum. We were kind of, all three of us in the group kind of all over the place for six, seven holes. Just a tough day, man. When you get around this place and the wind blows and the pins are tucked, it's just a really hard day.
Q. Putter not super duper cooperative today for you as well. How were you able to what enabled you to manage that to be able to keep things at 12 under headed into tomorrow?
BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, you're not going to make putts every day, today was the slow day with the putter. Had a couple decent looks, hit good putts, just didn't go in. You get windy conditions like that, it's hard to roll the ball. Hopefully make a few more tomorrow.
Yeah, just leaning on my short game today, chipped it in there close a few times. The stat sheet won't say it, but I made some solid par putts, fivefooters, sixfooters, eightfooters that don't show up as pretty but they sure keep your round alive.
Q. People might bring up The Open win a lot, but you were able to defend a lead there in very tough conditions. How much confidence do you draw for tomorrow knowing that you have won one of golf's biggest tests in some of the harshest conditions people have seen?
BRIAN HARMAN: Yeah, certainly know that I can do it, but the guys that are behind me, they're hungry, man, they're coming. A lot of guys that haven't won, guys that have won a couple times, good players, so I'll have to play really well tomorrow.
Q. Brian, when you say "really well," I wonder exactly what that means. In other words, with the lead that you have and knowing the forecast for tomorrow, how do you prepare for that round?
BRIAN HARMAN: Well, I doubt it's going to be worse than today. I think
Q. I think it might be.
BRIAN HARMAN: OK. I'll trust you, you're probably from around here.
You just go out and you do your best. I don't know what a score looks like, you just hit good shots and try to make putts and if you miss the green, you get up and down.
