First Round Interview with Scottie Scheffler

Q. Scottie, after the last few days of prep, how was today's reality versus the preparation?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I didn't really know what to expect this morning with the weather and  (cell phone rings) sweet. The forecast said that it was supposed to be super windy.

Q. You're a man in demand. Everyone wants to talk to you.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: ESPN wants to talk to me, my Sports Center notifications. No, it said it was going to be really windy this morning. It was quite cold, but it wasn't as windy as I thought. So I didn't really know exactly what to expect, but fortunately for us it wasn't super windy and was able to hit some good shots there on the front nine. Had a pretty solid day overall.

Q. You said earlier this week that this course will reveal some parts of your game that might need some work. Was there anything that came up like that today?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Not really. I felt like I played pretty solid overall. I made a few silly mistakes here and there, kind of two sloppy bogeys, but other than that, I felt like I played really solid.

Q. How much confidence do you get from the last birdie there?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's great. I was pretty frustrated bogeying a par 5 there towards the end of the round bounce, so having a nice bounceback will give me some momentum and make me rest a little easier this afternoon.

Q. And what's the game plan for tomorrow, especially if that wind is going to be up?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Just same as usual, try to get the ball in play. On this golf course I don't hit as many full drivers as I usually do, a lot of teed down shots. Just practice a little bit of that that this afternoon and just get some rest.
