Second Round Interview with Harold Varner

Q. Can I get the recipe for tomorrow? It was a pretty good day for you.

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, played well. I felt like I was on to something early, but just kind of keep playing, you know. There's still 36 holes left. I had fun out there. Weird enough, I've played with Ryan a good bit and one of us usually plays well and I guess I got the better end of the stick on that one.

Q. What did you find today that was a little bit different for you? I know the last couple weeks hasn't been the best. Just refreshed and found a little something on a Friday?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, nothing crazy happened on the course. It's been just a wild four weeks and I'm glad it's in the past. Just trying to get a little bit more level in my swing and some good things have happened. Getting a lot of looks, which is fun, and then ultimately converting on them.

Q. It's very rare you get a lot of looks on this golf course. Has it been a little bit different adjusting to really how scorable this place has been so far this week?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, it's definitely playing longer, but the greens are obviously receptive. You can hit it in there kind of wherever you want, so it's way easier from the fairway, so I've been hitting a lot of fairways. Golf's pretty simple from there.

Q. (No microphone.)

HAROLD VARNER III: I made some putts when I got my looks. Yesterday, I did not. Just I hit it really well. When you convert on them, it just makes golf so much easier.

Q. What did you see on 18 there at the end with a chance to maybe get to 9?

HAROLD VARNER III: I didn't see anything, I was just trying to get it on the green. I'm also happy that's in the past as well. I probably should have hit it a little bit higher, but if we got a repeat on everything, I think I'd do a lot better.

Q. How would you describe your season so far?

HAROLD VARNER III: Oh, it's going great. Every year I've had some type of stretch where I've not played well, and I think that was my stretch. And I did play well, just didn't convert on the times when like, you know, it's not perfect but you find a way to get it done.

Obviously, unfortunately, they're big events, but I've got to look forward.

Q. What did the lie look like on the chip?

HAROLD VARNER III: It was perfect. I just didn't execute, I didn't pick the right shot, and bad things happen when you do those two things. I don't know if it was that bad, though, I made par. But I was pretty hot.

Q. If you had to identify what it is that you think has kept you out of the winner's circle so far on the PGA TOUR, what do you think it is?

HAROLD VARNER III: I haven't really had that many great chances. Greenbrier's probably the only real good chance I've had. I just need to keep tasting it. I mean, I still love playing golf, that's the main thing. As long as I don't lose that, I'll win eventually. I really don't think about winning, to be honest with you. I just enjoy playing golf and if it happens, it happens. Let's keep it realistic, I get to do what I love for a living, so I'm going to keep doing that.
