First Round Interview with Chesson Hadley

Q. Chesson, to shoot 4 under par out there, you really had to be in control of your golf ball with these windy conditions.

CHESSON HADLEY: Yeah, that could have been maybe the best round I played this year just from how hard it was and how difficult the course is and just kind of everything that's going on. That's just off the top of my head. But yeah, I played so well today, proud of myself for hanging in there. And I certainly made some putts, which always -- you can score when you make putts. So very pleased with the day, got off to a great start and looking forward to tomorrow.

Q. There will be just a handful of birdies at the ninth. That's really a special way for you to close out the round?

CHESSON HADLEY: Oh, yeah, I stole one there. That's probably the hardest hole on the course. You know, I hit the best shot of the day for me. I finally flighted it. I hit it really solid, I just flighted a 5-iron in there, and it landed a little bit farther than I wanted it to but I hit it solid so it caught the slope and rolled back down there to, I don't know, maybe five, six, seven feet and was able to make that to finish off the round. So that's always a bonus.

Q. You missed eight greens but only had one single bogey, so really good scrambling to cobble that round together?

CHESSON HADLEY: Yeah, it was. You know, I just pieced it together pretty well today. I know I made one par I definitely shouldn't have made, but I'm not going to do it over again or give it back. I was tremendously pleased with the round today.
