SAN ANTONIO, TX – Valero Texas Open officials, joined by 2018 champion Andrew Landry, at its annual Media Day, kicked off the 2019 tournament campaign today with wide-ranging announcements highlighted by exciting tournament week activities and early player commitments.

The 2019 edition of the Valero Texas Open, which is scheduled for April 4-7 at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course, will be the first of a 10-year contract extension between the PGA TOUR and Valero Energy Corporation; a deal which repositions the tournament in a coveted slot on the TOUR schedule the week preceding The Masters.

Early announcements regarding the Valero Texas Open, which has made a tremendous impact on the San Antonio community since the 1920s, and its various tournament week activities include:

WORLD NO. 9, RICKIE FOWLER COMMITS: “I’m excited to compete in the Valero Texas Open for the first time in my career this coming April,” Rickie Fowler expressed. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about the tournament and the host venue from other players and I am happy that my playing schedule aligns well with the tournament’s pre-Masters date.”

PAST CHAMPION PLAYER COMMITMENTS: Landry is one of five (5) tournament champions in the past decade currently committed to the third oldest PGA TOUR event on the schedule. Among them are Kevin Chappell (2017), local star and major champion Jimmy Walker (2015), Martin Laird (2013) and Brendan Steele (2011).

Players have until Friday, March 29 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time to commit to the Valero Texas Open. They can withdraw from the tournament at any time.

TANJI PATTON TO SERVE AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR WOMEN’S DAY: On Tuesday, April 2, more than 300 women will participate in the 7th annual Valero Texas Open Women’s Day event at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and TPC San Antonio. Tournament officials are excited to announce that Tanji Patton, Emmy award winning journalist and Host/Executive Producer of the television series, “Good Taste with Tanji” will serve as the event’s Keynote Speaker. VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION TEES OFF: The Valero Texas Open will open volunteer registration to the public on Saturday, November 10 with its third annual Volunteer Registration Tee-Off event. The event will be held at The Shops at La Cantera from 11 am – 3 pm. All those who register to volunteer at the Tee-Off event will be entered in a drawing for incredible prizes.

Tournament officials are looking for volunteering enthusiasts with a passion to help and together create a fantastic Valero Texas Open experience for PGA TOUR players, corporate sponsors and spectators alike.
