Jordan Spieth, Zach Johnson, Gary Woodland add More Major Power

Top-Ranked Japanese Player Hideki Matsuyama Also Commits to Valero Texas Open

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Valero Texas Open officials announced today commitments from three major champions and one of the top International players in the world for the Valero Texas Open, scheduled for April 1-4 in San Antonio. The tournament will be the final PGA TOUR stop prior to the year’s first major championship, the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA.

Texan Jordan Spieth, winner of both the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open in 2015 and The Open Championship in 2017 will return to San Antonio for a second consecutive start. He finished T30 in 2019. The 11-time PGA TOUR winner’s best finish here was when he was runner-up to Jimmy Walker in 2015.

Zach Johnson is a two-time Valero Texas Open champion, winning in back-to-back fashion in 2008 and 2009. He is also a multiple major champion. He won the 2007 Masters Tournament and The Open Championship in 2015. He owns 12 PGA TOUR career victories.

Gary Woodland won the 2019 U.S Open and is a four-time PGA TOUR winner. His best finish in the Valero Texas Open is a T26 in 2015, the last time he played in San Antonio.

Hideki Matsuyama, currently ranked 24th in the Official World Golf Rankings, is the No.1 ranked Japanese golfer. He has won five times on the PGA TOUR, including two World Golf Championships. He has also won eight times on the Japanese Tour. This will be Matsuyama’s Valero Texas Open debut.

All four players will go on to compete in this year’s Masters Tournament following the Valero Texas Open.

With the primary focus on the health and well-being of the community and all involved with the tournament, the spectator and sponsor experience at the event has been reimagined to ensure all State, local and PGA TOUR safety protocols are observed. Upgraded spectator hospitality experiences will be open-air, provide ample space for social distancing, and allow for intimate viewing while taking advantage of miles of front row seats throughout the golf course, along the rope line.

Tournament officials will remain in constant communication with local authorities in the days ahead to ensure the latest health and safety guidance is observed and the well-being of tournament fans is the top priority.

The Dash to the VTO presented by Humana Military will be held Saturday, March 27, leading up to tournament week. Participation for the popular 5K and one-mile run/walk event on the TPC San Antonio grounds will be limited to the first 700 participants which includes staggered corrals of groups of 25 to observe and manage social distancing safely.
