Valero Texas Open Field Update For March 30, 2016

Returning to VTO: For the first time since 2003, Luke Donald is scheduled to compete in the Valero Texas Open, April 21-24. Donald, currently the 92nd ranked player in the world, played in the tournament from 2001-2003 with his best finish a T18 in 2002. The native of England has won five times on the PGA TOUR and eight times on the International scene. He has also been a member of four Ryder Cup teams and was the number 1 ranked player in the world for a total of 56 weeks between May 2011 and August 2012.

Recent TOUR Winners in The Field: Several more PGA TOUR champions have committed in recent days to play in this year’s tournament. Among them are Matt Every, who won the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard in both 2014 and 2015. Charley Hoffman, who finished 10th in the FedExCup standings a year ago on the strength of his OHL Classic at Mayakoba victory, is also coming to San Antonio as is Ryan Moore, a four- time winner including last year’s CIMB Classic. John Senden and Kevin Streelman, both winners in 2014, are also in the field.

Charley Likes San Antonio: Charley Hoffman will be returning to the Valero Texas Open for the eleventh consecutive year and for good reason. Hoffman has never missed a cut, has finished in the top-15 nine times and that includes a runner up finish and a third place finish. Last year, he was tied for 11th and boosted his career earnings at the VTO to $1,766,770.

...And So Does Freddie: Another player to commit this week is Freddie Jacobson, who played a TOUR record 542 holes without a three-putt during a stretch that ended last April. The native of Sweden has also enjoyed success at the VTO with nine cuts made in nine starts, including seven top-25 finishes. Jacobson’s best stretch at the VTO was a T5 in 2009, 2nd in 2010 and another T5 in 2011.

Major Champions Update: Mike Weir, winner of the 2003 Masters Tournament, is the seventh major championship winner to commit. Weir joins Ben Curtis (The Open Championship), Lucas Glover (U.S. Open), Retief Goosen (U.S. Open twice), Padraig Harrington (The Open Championship twice, PGA Championship), Zach Johnson (Masters, The Open Championship), and Justin Leonard (The Open Championship).
