Field E-Notes for March 11, 2014

Local Exemptions: Two players with local ties were recently offered exemptions into the field for the Valero Texas Open, scheduled for March 24-30 at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio. Cameron Beckman of San Antonio and Joe Ogilvie of Austin will be competing. Beckman has won three times on TOUR and Ogilvie once.

Major Champions coming to San Antonio: Currently eleven major champions are scheduled to compete—Mark Calcavecchia (British), Ben Curtis (British), Jim Furyk (U.S. Open), Retief Goosen (2 U.S. Opens), Padraig Harrington (2 British, 1 PGA Championship), Trevor Immelman (Masters), Zach Johnson (Masters), Justin Leonard (British), Geoff Ogilvy (U.S. Open), David Toms (PGA Championship) and Mike Weir (Masters).

Season Champions: There are four champions of the current FedEx Cup season who are scheduled to play. Chesson Hadley, who won in Puerto Rico this Sunday, is the latest on this list. San Antonio’s Jimmy Walker, winner of the Frys.com Open, Sony Open in Hawaii and AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am will be here as will Ryan Moore (CIMB Classic) and Zach Johnson (Hyundai Tournament of Champions).

Multiple Career Champions in the Field: Not previously announced multiple champions preparing for the VTO are: Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Woody Austin, Jason Bohn, Ben Crane, Fred Funk, Brian Gay, Paul Goydos, Dudley Hart, J.J. Henry, Charley Hoffman, J.B. Holmes, Charles Howell III, Jerry Kelly, Will MacKenzie, Jeff Maggert, Troy Matteson, Sean O’Hair, Ryan Palmer, John Rollins, Heath Slocum, Scott Verplank and Johnson Wagner.

Reminder: PGA TOUR players have until 4:00 p.m. Central/5:00 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, March 21 to announce their intentions to play in the VTO. No player can commit after that deadline. A player can withdraw at any time.
