First Round Interview with Nick Taylor

Q. Nick, 3-under 69, nice start. If we can get some comments on your round.

NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, I got off to a pretty nice start especially with the super long delay. I feel like the rain was on and off and just made some nice long putts kind of early to kind of get the round going. I hit it really nice the last 12 or 13 holes. Probably didn't score as well as maybe the first five or six, but overall a good start.

Q. Talk a little bit about the windy conditions out there today.

NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, it's tough, it was a long morning, kind of start and stop. Then when kind of the fog lifted, the wind picked up. So it's going to be a tough day and obviously with it being a little softer, it's still scorable but the wind makes it tricky.

Q. So 69's a really good score on a day like this?

NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, I would have taken that for sure. I think the approach shots, you can definitely hit it close, but some of those exposed greens with the gusty winds, it's really hard to putt and kind of trust your line. I did a pretty good job of that today. Yeah, I would have taken 69 to start the day.

Q. Lastly, how do you feel about the state of your game coming into the week and then after the round?

NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, good. I had a good week at Valspar. Last week I actually played pretty good at the Match Play, and it is what it is, lost a couple matches and was able to win the final one. Game feels good. It's been a long stretch, so I'm excited to finish off strong and have a week off.
