First Round Interview with Kevin Chappell
Kevin, past champion here, just some thoughts on how special of an event the Valero Texas Open is to you, especially as a past champion?
KEVIN CHAPPELL: Yeah, it's always great to come back here. Valero and the tournament team, they do an amazing job making everyone feel welcome from the players to the families that come out. That in itself is a reason I come back.
On a day like this when weather's such a factor, somebody that may not know how you guys go about your day, a lot of stopping and starting I would imagine.
KEVIN CHAPPELL: Yeah, there was, I think I warmed up four different times on the range. Got to show some patience. Everyone's going through it or at least half the field's going through it. I guess you could find some solace in that.
Last question is, as a past champion, on top of everything Valero does, how special is it to come back here?
KEVIN CHAPPELL: It's always great to come back. There's so many great memories for me on the golf course here and to be able to pull from those and really use those to my advantage while playing, it's great. Then you add in the family environment, it's the best of the year for me.
Under par score today, it's not playing real easy. Just some thoughts on the round?
KEVIN CHAPPELL: Yeah, I definitely left a few out there, played the par 5s over par, but under par's a good score. Hopefully get a chance to get out to the course tomorrow on a nice day.
