First Round Interview with Camilo Villegas

Q. Camilo, 8-under 64. You had an opening bogey and then went on to have nine birdies. What are your takeaways from an incredible round?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Yeah, you know what, some days the hole is a little bit big and that was the case today. I played really good, but I also got a couple nice breaks. Made a couple good par saves and overall it was very solid. Obviously you don't shoot 8 under not playing good. No, I'm excited. I like this place. But it's only Thursday, so we've just got to keep patient, keep doing what we're doing and have fun out there.

Q. On your back nine you had four straight birdies, 2 through 5. What was going on through your mind during that stretch of holes?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: Yeah, that back nine was solid. I mean, I kept putting the ball in play and gave myself good chances. Again, I rolled the putter unbelievable today and it was one of those days. Then on 9 I got really lucky. I hit a chip that was probably going off the green and hit the pin and goes in. So it's golf. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn't and today was one of those good days.

Q. Over the past few months you've had challenges with your game. Was today validating for you?

CAMILO VILLEGAS: It's just golf. We're focused on the process. The last few years I've been up and down with many things, but you know what? We keep showing up to Bear's Club and put in hours and have fun with the process. Then the results start showing up. I played nicely at Honda a couple weeks ago and hopefully we can build off that and keep playing like I did today.
