Ten Major Champions Now in the Field

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Today Tournament officials announced the additions of Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, and Vijay Singh to the field for the 102nd anniversary of the Valero Texas Open.

San Antonio’s historical PGA TOUR event returns this spring to TPC San Antonio’s The Oaks course for the 14th consecutive year, April 1-7, a week preceding the Masters Tournament.

Kuchar, winner of the 2012 PLAYERS Championship, played this past week, has an impressive history at the Valero Texas Open, despite not winning here. He has accumulated five top 10 finishes, including a pair of runner-up finishes in the tournament. His past four consecutive starts have resulted in a T7, T12, T2, T3.

Simpson, winner of the 2012 U.S. Open and 2018 PLAYERS, will be making his first start at the Valero Texas Open. Singh, who will be making his first start in San Antonio since 2010, is a World Golf Hall of Fame member and three-time major champion, winning the 1998 PGA Championship, 2000 Masters Tournament, and 2004 PGA Championship.

With the addition of Singh and Simpson, there are now ten major championship winners in the Valero Texas Open field that also include: Stewart Cink, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lucas Glover, Brian Harman, Rory McIlroy, Colin Morikawa, Adam Scott, and Jimmy Walker.

Kuchar and Simpson also join past PLAYERS Championship winners Scott (2004), Rickie Fowler (2015) and McIlroy (2019) in the field.

Corey Conners, a two-time winner of the Valero Texas Open, is set to defend his title against what is becoming one of the strongest fields in recent tournament history. Other past champions in the field are Charley Hoffman, Martin Laird, Andrew Landry, Scott, J.J. Spaun and Walker.

PGA TOUR players have until Friday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time to commit and can withdraw at any time.

StarChampions fore Charity: Champions fore Charity is a fundraising program that provides participating charities and schools the opportunity to generate contributions through the Valero Texas Open. The Champions fore Charity program distributed over $14.88M to charities, a part of the record-breaking $23 million raised by the tournament in 2023, bringing the grand total to $232 million in charitable giving from Valero Texas Open tournament proceeds.

The 2024 fundraising campaign is presently underway and will conclude April 15. Over 190 participating charities and school programs have already raised over $12 million to date. At the conclusion of the fundraiser, the charities will also receive several financial incentives including a 7% matching gift provided by the Valero Texas Open. StarVolunteer Opportunities: Opportunities are still available for individuals looking to support our charitable mission or interested in a behind-the-scenes look at conducting a PGA TOUR tournament. The Valero Texas Open utilizes approximately 2,100 volunteers across twenty-six committees to assist in staging and managing the tournament. Nearly 800 Valero employees are part of this volunteer effort.
