Rickie Fowler and Hideki Matsuyama Among Latest Additions to the Field

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Valero Texas Open tournament officials announced today more player commitments, who will be joining defending champion J.J. Spaun in the 144-man field. The historical PGA TOUR stop returns to TPC San Antonio’s The Oaks course March 30 - April 2.

“This wave of player commitments represents a variety of the best players in the world, from a major champion to a PLAYERS Champion and those who are on the rise in their young careers,” said Larson Segerdahl, Executive Director of the Valero Texas Open.

2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama returns for the third year in a row. Ranked 20th in the world, the top Japanese golfer has eight career PGA TOUR wins. Last year, he had to withdraw from the Valero Texas Open after the first round due to an injury, but finished T30 in 2021 before going on to earn his Green Jacket the following week. Rickie Fowler, 34 and ranked 59th, has won five times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2015 PLAYERS Championship. The fan favorite has played well this season with three top-10 finishes and one runner-up elevating him to 22nd on the current FedEx Cup points list.

Sepp Straka, ranked 31st in the world, won the Honda Classic last year. He also was runner-up in two playoffs during the 2022 season. This will be Austrian’s third appearance at San Antonio’s TOUR stop. Another young TOUR winner, Si Woo Kim, ranked 39th, has added his name to this year’s field. Kim, has four wins on TOUR, including this season’s Sony Open in Hawaii. He was a member of the International team at last year’s Presidents Cup and has three top-25 finishes the last three years here.

Another rising star and member of the 2022 National Championship University of Texas men’s golf team, Pierceson Coody, has enjoyed immediate success since turning professional last summer. Coody has won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour and recently finished T14 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA TOUR.

PGA TOUR players have until Friday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time to commit and can withdraw at any time.
